Temperatures in Florida

Most people find Florida an attractive retirement option due at least in part to the state’s mild winters. But keep in mind that Florida is a very large state; as you can see on the gold map below, in the winter there is a significant difference in temperatures between the northern and southern parts of the state. So if you’re looking to only spend winters in Florida you may want to exclude locations north of Orlando. Northern Florida, especially inland, will frequently see temperatures drop below freezing from December through February and sometimes in November and March.

On the other hand, summer temperatures are fairly consistent throughout the state as you can see on the blue map below. I’m not going to lie – Florida summers are hot and humid! However, similar summer temperatures does not translate to similar comfort levels across the state. You will feel significantly more comfortable on the east coast of the state than you will if you live inland, or even on the gulf coast. This is due to the moderating effects of the Gulf Stream and the east coast breezes.
